I want to walk you through something today, and I want to do it the way I’d do it in person — honestly, without the wellness-industry costume, without the urgency tactics, without pretending I’m not asking you for something.
Paid is now live on this publication. Free, paid, and Inner Circle tiers exist. Here’s what that means and what it doesn’t.
The architecture
Let me name the structure plainly, because I think a lot of creators obscure this part and I don’t want to.
Free is the framework. The essays, the language, the four-state map, the actual work, plus The Spiral Podcast (also now live in Substack). That stays free forever because I have a lot of opinions about those who profit off women who don’t understand their own bodies, and I’m not adding myself to that list. The thing that names you should not require a credit card.
If you only ever read free, you have full access to the framework. You’re not getting a watered-down version. You’re not missing the real essays. The framework lives in the essays you’ve already been reading and the ones I’ll publish on Mondays from here on out. That’s it. That’s the work.
Paid adds depth. Four things specifically: Read With Me audio (I'll get to that in a second), Nova — the AI version of me trained on the framework, more on her below — voice notes and thinking-in-progress between essays, and comments open on every post so you're part of the actual conversation, not just the silent read.
Inner Circle is the access tier. Everything in paid, plus a Monthly Deep Dive Live with me on one framework concept, plus a Monthly AMA where Inner Circle members bring framework questions and I respond throughout the month, plus a members-only chat space where Inner Circle members talk to each other ongoing. And, as a Thank You, a signed copy of Spiraling Into Control when you join.
That’s the architecture. Free, paid, Inner Circle. The framework stays free. Paid is additive. Inner Circle is access.
What changes for free subscribers
Nothing.
I want to say that twice because it matters. Nothing changes for free subscribers. You’ll keep getting essays in your inbox on Mondays. You’ll keep having access to the full archive of foundational pieces. You won’t suddenly hit a paywall on the essays I’ve already published. The four foundational pieces — You’re Not Crazy, It Counts, The Four States, The Spiral — stay free, in full, in your archive, forever.
The free tier of this publication is not a sample of the paid tier. It is the framework. The work I’ve spent years building. The language I want every woman who needs it to be able to find without having to qualify financially for it.
If paid never feels like a fit for you, stay free. Genuinely. I’d rather you stay free for ten years and get value from the framework than upgrade to paid for a month because you felt pressured and then unsubscribe because the math didn’t work for your life. The unsubscribe link is in the bottom of every email. The downgrade option exists. The door is always open in both directions.
What paid actually is
Let me be specific, because paid in the creator economy usually means the things I held back from you, and that’s not what’s happening here.
Read With Me. Audio of me reading Spiraling Into Control one chapter at a time, with commentary between chapters. It’s the director ’s-cut version of the book — the parts I added when I was reading aloud, the asides I couldn’t fit in the manuscript, the here’s what I actually meant when I wrote this commentary. It’s been running as a separate paid podcast for a while; it’s migrating into paid Substack starting June 1, with new chapters dropping weekly. So if you go paid now, you’ll be there when the first chapter drops on the new feed.
Voice notes and thinking-in-progress. Between the polished Monday free essays, paid subscribers get audio notes and rougher in-progress thinking that doesn’t make it into the published versions. The texture is different on purpose. You see how the work gets built, not just the finished version. Some of this is half-formed and unedited — that’s the point. If you’ve ever wished you could be in the room while a piece was being developed, that’s what this is.
Nova. Nova is the AI version of me. She's trained on the framework, in my voice, and she's been living in the Spiral App for a while now. Starting June 1, she's moving into the paid Substack tier — accessible to every paid subscriber as part of the tier, not a separate purchase. Nova is your 2 AM language-for-what's-happening. If you've ever wanted to file what's happening in your nervous system in the moment it's happening, that's what she's for. I'll write more about how to actually use her closer to the June 1 launch.
Comments open on every essay and podcast. The conversation matters. I’m in the comments more than I’m anywhere else online. Bring what you’ve got. Other paid subscribers will be there. The free essays don’t have comments enabled by default; paid does.
What The Inner Circle is
Inner Circle is the deeper access tier. Three things and they’re all access:
Monthly Deep Dive Live. One framework concept per month, taken further than the essays go. Live with me, with time for questions at the end. Recorded for Inner Circle members who can’t attend live.
Monthly AMA (Ask Me Anything). A dedicated thread each month where Inner Circle members bring questions. I respond throughout the month — sometimes in writing, sometimes in voice notes, depending on what the question needs in the moment. Live wrap-up at the end of the month addressing the questions that need conversation. The scope is framework questions and behind-the-scenes-of-the-work questions. Not individual coaching — that’s what the Pathway program is for, and I’ll tell you about it if it ever seems like the right fit.
Inner Circle Chat. A members-only chat space inside Substack, ongoing. This is where Inner Circle members talk to each other between Monthly Deep Dive Lives — share what's landing, ask for a thinking partnership, and post small moments in real time. I drop in when I have something to add. I don't promise daily presence. The space is run by the women who are in it. The reason it's small on purpose is why this works — Inner Circle members are reading the same essays, sitting with the same framework, and working with the same language. The conversation between members is what makes the room worth being in. I'm a visitor in this space, not the host.
A signed copy of Spiraling Into Control. When you join Inner Circle, I’ll be in touch separately to get your mailing address. This isn’t a marketing prop. It’s a real book, signed by me.
Something I want to do for the first thirty days
Because this is a launch, and because I want to mark it with something real instead of a discount-code marketing tactic, here’s what I’m doing for early paid members.
Every paid subscriber who joins in the next 30 days is entered into a drawing for a signed copy of the book. One winner, drawn 30 days from today. You don’t have to do anything to enter — just being a paid subscriber by June 17 enters you automatically.
There’s no upsell sequence behind this post. There’s no follow-up email pressuring you. There’s no urgency tactic. You’ll see paid as an option in your settings; you can change tiers anytime; you can downgrade or unsubscribe anytime. The qualifying mechanism is the same as it is for everything else in this work — you decide.
If you stay where you are, glad you’re here. If you upgrade, glad you’re here. Same room. Different depths.
— Lauren
